4 Tips For Maintaining Your Goal Weight

And with the breadth of resources available to individuals trying to lose weight, many of them certainly see success. After all, losing just five to 10% of your body weight can dramatically reduce your risk of chronic disease such as heart disease.

But what happens after you’ve lost the weight? How do you keep it off? While losing weight can be difficult, maintaining weight loss can be as hard — if not more difficult — than the original task at hand.

But with a few rules of thumb kept in mind, one can maintain their weight loss in a healthy and positive way.

Rule Number One: Remember why you lost the weight in the first place.
While looking good can be a motivation for many, the only thing that really lasts is good health. To boot, the pressures to look thin could prove to be too much and lead to self-sabotage. Instead, develop a healthy relationship with your new body and make it a mission of lifelong health.

Rule Number Two: Don’t go it alone.

Move Your Body
Did you know that less than 5% of adults participate in 30 minutes of physical activity on a daily basis? While it might seem like a big commitment, 30 minutes of activity only comes down to 1/48th of your entire day. And even the simplest of exercise, such as walking during your lunch break or popping in a yoga DVD, can have a serious impact on the shape of your body and your health. For quick but effective workouts, focus on interval training that incorporates both cardio and strength.

Eat the Right Foods
You can work out as much as you want, but as long as your diet is poor, you will have trouble seeing results. Focus on having three balanced meals a day that include at least one serving of vegetables, lean protein, and something whole grain.
